FAQ’s

how do i know if my dog needs physiotherapy?

Dogs who have recently suffered an injury or have undergone surgery can benefit from veterinary physiotherapy to enhance the healing process and have an advanced return to function.

Performance, elderly or active animals are suggested to have regular treatments to detect any subtle changes and compensations to the musculoskeletal system.

my dog doesn’t actually have an injury - can they still have physio?

Absolutely - prevention and prehab is better than rehab! Why wait for your animal to get an injury? Physio is not just for injuries, diseases or post-operative cases, it can be used to maintain good musculoskeletal health, movement and release muscular tension. Additionally, it is a useful way to spot any compensations early due to underlying issues.

Many owners choose for their dog to receive regular sessions or a relaxing treatment for peace of mind.

does my vet need to give consent for my dog to receive physio?

Yes. In order to comply with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, it is a legal requirement for Veterinary Physiotherapists to obtain consent from a qualified and registered Veterinary Surgeon before treating your dog. Gaining consent also allows me to find out your dog’s medical history prior to our appointment, which helps me tailor an appropriate and individualised treatment plan.

Get in contact via the form on my website or drop me a message/email and ask me to send over my vet consent form. Ask your vet to fill out the necessary sections and return to me. Alternatively, I can liaise with your vet directly, please just send me over their details!

how do i book an initial appointment?

Please contact me directly either by the enquiry form on this website, WhatsApp message, email or through my social media accounts and we can organise obtaining vet consent and get your dog’s initial assessment booked in!

what times/days do you offer appointments?

I understand my clients have busy lives and commitments, so I aim to be as flexible as possible to meet your needs - I offer weekday, evening and weekend appointments - drop me a message to check my upcoming availability!

how long does an appointment/session last?

On your dog’s first visit I’ll complete a thorough initial assessment, which includes taking a full subjective history from you as the owner, as well as conducting a thorough physical assessment. Where time allows, I’ll usually provide some treatment and may show you a couple of initial exercises you can get started with. This usually takes around 1 hour.

Whereas, follow up visits/treatment sessions are 45 minutes.

what do physiotherapy assessments & treatments involve?

Please see the ‘Services’ page.

my dog is very nervous/aggressive - can they still have physiotherapy?

Yes. Each case is unique, but there are numerous ways in which I can try to work with you and your dog to get them some treatment. For example: scheduling extra time, use of a muzzle if needed, having the visit in your home, using treats, talking you through and demonstrating (if your dog is strictly no touch), working with your vet/behaviourist etc. I will always give it a go!

how much does a vet physiotherapy session cost?

Please see the ‘Pricing’ page, for a breakdown of my prices. (Note: I do offer block booking options at a slightly cheaper rate).

will my insurance company cover the cost of physiotherapy treatment?

Most of the time - yes! Veterinary Physiotherapists registered with the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP), which I am, are widely recognised by most pet insurance companies. Be sure to contact your insurance provider to find out what your policy covers before you book an appointment. Unfortunately I cannot process your insurance claims directly; you will be required to pay me and I will provide a receipt that will allow you to claim back your costs from your insurance company.

How do you accept payment?

Bank transfer or cash - whatever is easiest for you!

Is there anything I need to do to prepare my dog, prior to a physiotherapy session?

Please ensure your dog is clean and dry.

I will require an area of space on the floor (preferably a non-slip area, ie. carpet space/rug/yoga mat).

Please note: During sessions I sometimes use treats to aid specific exercises (if your dog has any special dietary requirements or you’d just rather use your own, please have these available).
